car share - audience pleasures

audience pleasures

In car share there are a lot of different audience pleasures that they have included to make it more pleasurable for the audience. The audience pleasures are pretty much the same in most of the episodes so they are repeated throughout. when we first met the two characters we instantly knew who Peter Kay was so he was recognizable for the audience watching at home, although the audience had only just met the two characters they were instantly recognizable. The diegetic sound in the background was music that adults would of known as it was from the time they had grown up in, this is relateable for the audience watching. The diegetic sound in the background is the radio playing and even the adverts on the radio has the target audience in mind and makes certain jokes that maybe some younger people might not understand, this adds more onto the audience pleasures as the target audience is aimed at older people. Throughout the episodes there are up-to 2 main sets which is the car and the car park, but at the beginning off the episodes we meet the second main character at her house. When they're on their way to work there type of conversations include crude language, with comedic values, but as the two characters have just met and it's awkward between them but in the next couple of episodes there's more snowballing between them and there's always a joke being built up throughout to add to the audience pleasures as they want to know how the joke ends.
The narrative pleasures is at the end of the episode when ted dies and we're introduced to new Ted, who is more attractive than old Ted. The character identification is Peter Kay as we notice him from other genres, this is pleasurable for the audience who recognizes Peter from other shows.

  • there's two main characters
  • crude language
  • conversations with comedic values
  • 2 main sets (car and the car park)
  • snowballing theme/joke interpretation throughout
  • aimed at the target audience e.g. with the jokes and the adverts that come on during the car ride
  • there's repetition of the same joke throughout
  • anticipation about the same joke
  • transgressive humor
  • jokes/adverts aimed at the target audience
  • relatable characters and parodies re-interpreted
  • songs/jokes that adults would know/understand
  • fat/fart jokes.
John and Kayleigh are opposite characters.
Kayleigh is one of the main characters in car share, she's more joyful than john and is naive with the things that she does and says. Near the beginning of the episodes she was happy and joyful, but at the end of the episode she wasn't as happy so there was a change in her character.

John is also the other main character, he on the other hand isn't as happy and joyful as Kayleigh, John is the opposite of Kayleigh, he is an closed character, whilst Kayleigh can happily tell him anything, Kayleigh is over affectionate and claims that she needs someone to be happy whilst John is happy on his own and doesn't need anyone to make him happy.
